Adam is a Tough Lawyer for Tough Situations. Before founding and operating Spence Law Group in 2001, Adam received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia in 1992 and a J.D. from the Georgia Mason University School of Law in 1995. After graduating law school, he served as a law clerk to the Circuit Court for Arlington County, Virginia. Since that time, Adam has been in private practice, representing businesses and individuals in complex litigation.
Today, Adam’s practice focuses primarily on trust and estate disputes. He has worked on hundreds of cases involving the SAFE Act, misuse of powers of attorney, breaches of fiduciary duty, caveat and will contests, and misappropriation of estate assets. In addition to trust and estate litigation, Adam also has extensive experience in business disputes, commercial real estate matters, collections, and other civil litigation.
In 2021, Adam was one of the primary drafters and lobbyists of Maryland’s Statute Against Financial Exploitation (the “SAFE Act”), designed to deter financial exploitation of the elderly as well as to provide victims and their families with substantive remedies to recover against perpetrators of financial abuse. Since the passage of the SAFE Act, Adam has handled dozens of SAFE Act lawsuits, helping his clients recover monies that were unlawfully taken from themselves or their loved ones.
Adam is a highly sought-after speaker, having presented topics including elder abuse, trust and estate matters, professional networking, and the use of technology in the legal profession. Passionate about innovation, he is particularly interested in the role of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies in shaping the future of law. Beyond his practice, Adam also devotes time to mentoring aspiring attorneys, law students, and fresh graduates as they begin their legal careers.
Adam currently lives with his wife, Susan, in Phoenix, Maryland. When he is not practicing law or spending time with his three sons, he enjoys camping, watching and attending football games, and playing pickleball. Adam is also active in the community, serving as an Assistant Scout Master with Troop 497.
